Issue 1.5 – For the Dogs Part 1

We’ll start things off with the PupProtector from Paws.com. I have zero disciplinary control when it comes to cute furry beings, so needless to say when my fur babies were puppies they ended up on the couch 🐶 Adorable when they were 8 weeks and 6 pounds, now not so much. Not to mention the fact that Rio sheds fur like it’s her job and both of my little darlings think they can sprawl out on the couch and kick me out of their way 😡

I needed to find a solution to avoid becoming one of those people whose house screams “oh…you have dogs” the second people walk in. My quest centered around three main goals: 1) find something somewhat stylish that won’t look like a nasty dog blanket; 2) hide the massive amount of shedding so I don’t have to vacuum my furniture EVERY FRIGGIN DAY; and 3) make it desirable enough that they’d actually want to lie on it and not on me, or the couch cushions.

Enter the PupProtector. This thing is a godsend. It looks like an expensive fur throw from Pottery Barn so it’s not an eyesore draped over the end of my couch, and if Rio wasn’t a permanent fixture sitting on her perch like a goddamned gargoyle, you would never know it was meant for a dog. I got two of them at Christmas – one for each of my spoiled rotten angels – and they LIT-ER-ALLY won’t lie down anywhere else. The fur is long and plush, perfect for hiding shedding hair. The backing is waterproof so if you have a puppy, an old incontinent dog, or just never house trained your pup (you lazy fuck, you), you don’t have to worry about any accidents seeping through and ruining furniture, bedding or carpets. Not to mention it’s super easy to shake out, wash or fold up and take on the road. It’s also really thick and comfy so you could forego the need for a dog bed all together 🙌🏽.

I have purchased my fair share of shitty dog beds and blankets, but the PupProtector far exceeded expectations. They seem to always be “on sale” at paws.com for more than half off the list price, which made me skeptical on quality at first, but don’t be – they are worth every penny! (Speaking of Penny, she would ❤️ one of these).

Issue 1.4 – Homesick Candles

As females, there is something inherently ingrained in all of us that makes us seek out good smells. Who doesn’t love to hear, “OMG it smells amazing in here!”, when guests walk into your home? Marry our love of heavenly scents with the desire to create a welcoming environment and TA-DA, our infatuation with candles is born! 💡

Now, Homesick Candles aren’t just any old run-of-the-mill candles that you can scoop up for $14.00 at Home Goods (but if you do happen to see one there, you damn well better grab me one!). Homesick Candles are elite – they are special occasion, memory evoking jars of exquisite smelling soy. This is NOT the candle that Karen is burning when she has the girls over for bridge night and Elaine brings the same goddamned casserole that she makes every single week. On the contrary, this candle is the one that the hostess extraordinaire burns when she throws an Après Ski themed fête complete with endless champagne, raclette, fur adorned beauties and live reindeer.

During North Conway Girls Weekend, our senses were treated to the amber, vanilla and cedar notes of the Ski Trip Candle, but that’s just one of the many weapons that Homesick has in their olfactory army 👃🏽 (<– Rocio, that’s not a dick just an FYI). There are a variety of scents curated with nostalgia in mind – Beach Cottage, American Summer, Road Trip, Holiday Stroll – as well as candles crafted with notes that are reminiscent of each state in the union (thanks, but no thanks New Jersey Candle 😝). They also offer related products such as car fresheners, reed diffusers and wick trimmers, which I’m sure are the same high quality as their candles, yet I cannot personally attest to them, however I do I accept gifts in which case I’d be happy to update this post accordingly 😉

Homesick offers bundle deals, occasional discounts and free shipping over $65.00.

Issue 1.3 – Aviator Nation

Where to start about my love for Aviator Nation? Is it the insanely soft garment-dyed cotton? Is it the retro-cool 1970’s surfer-styles and patterns? Is it the gorgeous blonde they use to model all of their items? It’s hard to say. But what I can say, is that they make the most amazingly comfortable hoodies with the coolest vintage vibe.

As an ANG (that’s Aviator Nation groupy for those not in the know), I can attest to the awesomeness of their product. I have way more items of theirs than I should admit, especially since they’re not cheap and does a 42-year old grown woman really need 10 hoodies and 5 pairs of sweats (she does…she really does), but I just can’t help it! They frequently have 20% off sales which makes the price a little bit easier to swallow (and I know you girls love to swallow), so even when it’s 95 degrees and humid in August, if they’re having a sale, I just can’t NOT buy that killer camo hoodie, because well, have you seen it?!?!?

I’m pretty loyal to the Ninja Hoodies as of late, and to be honest, given the whole COVID/facemask situation we’ve been living in for the past year, I think they’re also quite functional. The Zip-front Hoodies are a staple in my spring/summer wardrobe and always perfect to stash along in the event it gets chilly at night. I also own a few sweatpants which definitely have a more fitted feel to them, but super comfy nonetheless. And lastly, the jogger shorts are straight out of Boogie Nights but I reserve those for certain audiences (which lately, has just been my dogs ☹) since they leave little to the imagination.

I believe they offer a discount for an email list sign-up, and per above, they offer a 20% off sale every other month or so, so if you follow them on Instagram you won’t miss out. Most of the pieces run unisex sizing and I am consistently a Medium, although I could probably bump up to a Large on the sweatpants and shorts (field hockey thighs thank you very much), but I prefer to squeeze my ass into Mediums to keep it consistent.

Trust me when I say these are the BEST sweats out there. Every time I wear or bring mine someplace one of my friends tries to steal it, and I have to search certain people when they leave my house because they know where I store my collection 😉

Issue 1.2 – Rumpl Blankets

Rumpl makes the best blankets hands down! They are simultaneously rugged and cozy while remaining super stylish and durable – kind of like me 😉 I have multiple Rumpls, but my top two go-to’s are the Sherpa Puffy in Filmore and the Original Puffy in Deepwater.

Let’s start with the Sherpa…the furry lining is AH-MAZING. It’s not some matted down rough fuzz that loses its softness after a few uses or a wash. It’s like cuddling up with a baby animal and for me it’s almost TOO warm (I run hot), which makes it ideal for naked snuggles (note: always wash after naked snuggles, because naked snuggles in the Sherpa always lead to sexy time).

The Original Puffy is perfect for outdoor use. It has been my right-hand man at the beach, the drive-in, backyard fire pits – it has experienced salt air, spilled beer, dog fur and god knows what else. It’s like a super high-tech sleeping bag in blanket form.

The Sherpa Puffy only comes in 1-person size, but as Penny can attest, it’s definitely big enough for two. This also makes the 1-person Sherpa ideal for naked snuggles as per above (preferably not with pets involved – unless you’re into that kind of thing). The Sherpa comes with a Velcro strap/handle for folding up, making it ideal for toting around and bringing any place where you find the need to have your own blanket.

The Original Puffy comes in both 1-person and 2-person, and my 2-person is more than big enough for four inebriated adults to sit on around the fire pit at the beach. It also comes with a storage bag, making the Original Puffy super compact and perfect for keeping in the car – ya know for those impromptu nights looking at stars on the beach.

Rumpl offers a 10% discount on first orders.

Issue 1.1 – The Hat:

THE official hat of North Conway Girls Weekend 2021. As seen on both AB and Steph over the course of three days in the mountains. Looks just as good with lingerie in the hot tub as it does slinging back margaritas at Moat Mountain. Soft and slouchy in the right areas so as not to give you “dick head”, it’s proven to be both practical and stylish. The ice blue version which now lives with Steph in Portsmouth (in exchange for a Carhartt beanie which was much less “dickish” on Nicole), is last years color and no longer available, but The North Face seems to have figured out that they had a hit with this one and are now offering four new colors this season.

The North Face Women’s Plush Beanie is available in TNF White Heather, TNF Black, Vanadis Grey Heather and something called New Taupe Green Heather (which is not a Nic approved color 🤢). It retails for $32.00 and is available online at Rocio’s favorite store – Dick’s 🍆
